After watching Supersize Me I have been determined to do the following things: #1. cut down on my sugar intake
#2. decrease my food intake of fast food
#3. increase my food intake of vegetables
#4. increase my food intake of grains and protein-latent food that isn't meat --mostly just because I don't like to cook it!
#5. exercise on a regular basis (I'm thinking of doing a M, W, F regime for starters)
Now how am I doing?
Well, my sugar intake has gone way down -yippee! It's been officially over a week since I've taken a sip of pop. Now that's a milestone. I have decreased fast food but still have room for improvement (oh man, those McD. fries are hollering at me!). Let's not talk about the veggies just yet. Or the grains and protein-latent ..... But I have begun my swimming regime....I just took a little break last week. Wish me luck!
Good luck!

I had the same exact reaction to that movie. Fortunately, I didn't have to worry about the meat, the fast food, or the exercise, but the sugar has always been a big challenge for me. I'd really like to start cooking more fresh vegetables and relying less on convenience foods.
I've found that a good way to increase the daily veggie intake is to make a large batch of veggie-filled soup and eat it throughout the week. Good examples are the Wild Rice & Vegetable Soup and that Sweet Potato Peanut Stew that I used to make at the Green St. apartment. I've recently found another awesome and easy veggie soup recipe. Let me know if you want it. Good luck with everything. I'm excited for you!

Posted by: Liza at June 21, 2004 11:03 PMAn update on my day:
good girl- I skipped out on having a cookie with my lunch
crazy sugar girl- I ate Air Heads while watching tv (double boo and hiss)
active girl - I went on an hour walk with KT (and even broke a sweat... AND no, it wasn't super hot out!)
Thanks for all the encouragement!!!
Good going on the walk! I just read in my GQ where they looked at 4 different kinds of people that work out, how often, when, their motivation, etc. They talked to trainers and psychologists. They said that the kind of person most likely to start and continue a balanced (as in not overdoing or underdoing it) regular exercise program for most of their life is one that pairs exercise with recreational activities with friends or family.
And you guys can have my extra pull-up bar if you want. A couple times a day, every other day, I bet you'll notice a difference in a month or so. Or you can just lift Amia.
awww...amia.
